Based in Managua, the mission of Amos Health & Hope is to improve the health of impoverished communities by working alongside them in health, education and development. Through partnerships with rural communities in Nicaragua, Amos Health & Hope ensures effective and empowering health care. Wake Forest University students worked with a community to support the work of grassroots health promoters who help identify community health needs and empower the people to take control through information and resources.

Laura Parajon, AMOS Medical Director

"What we do at AMOS is come alongside communities, working with them, training them and building community capacity. And we do it all together in partnership with AMOS, with groups from the United States...The Wake Forest students were great. To us, that's exciting - to be able to work together and try to make a difference together and hopefully it will become a long-term commitment."

Varian Turnstall, Wake Forest Student Volunteer

"It totally opened my eyes to life outside the bubble of Wake Forest and America...I think our group definitely contributed to collecting data and giving that knowledge back to the community to then work through themselves."
